A Closer Look At Your Favourite Nissan Concept Vehicle: The 2021 Nissan Z Proto

Last month we took a look at some of Nissan’s most creative concept vehicles and asked you to vote for your favourite car that didn’t quite make the cut. You cast your ballots, we tallied the votes, and one concept emerged as the clear frontrunner . . .  the 2021 Nissan Z Proto.

Nissan’s classic coupe has a rich heritage spanning 50 years of innovation and sporty design. Making its first appearance all the way back in 1969 under the Datsun 240Z title, the Z was an instant success here in North America and became firmly established as a sports car icon by the early ‘70s.

As Nissan’s legendary sports car gained popularity across the world, drivers found new ways to put it’s 2.4-litre, 151 horsepower engine to the test. The Z reigned victorious in the rally racing circuit, and even patrolled the streets of its home country as a pursuit vehicle for the Tokyo Municipal Police Department.

As the years progressed, the Z grew to become bigger and more powerful with each new generation. Today’s Nissan Z Proto sports a 3.0-litre, 400 horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine, tucked into Nissan’s iconic long hood and short rear deck, wide stance profile, staying true to its DNA while adding a modern twist to its memorable styling cues

The 2021 Nissan Z Proto was developed by Nissan’s Japanese design team as a fresh take on their legendary sports car, representing the true spirit of Nissan. Just this week, Nissan announced the Proto will be making the transition from concept to reality!

Arriving in 2022, the all-new, seventh generation Nissan Z stays true to its performance roots, featuring the same engine as the Z Proto, paired with Nissan’s unmistakable pure sports car quality craftsmanship. For full details on Nissan's next generation Z, check out our in depth article here

2024 Nissan Z NISMO: Photos, Specs, Release Date

The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO is a third trim level added to the seventh-generation Z for its second model year, a top-spec option sitting above the Z Sport and Z Performance.
