Tips for First-Time Car Buyers

Buying your first car is an exciting milestone, but it can also feel overwhelming with so many options and factors to consider. To help make the process smoother, we asked our team for their top tips for new vehicle buyers. Here’s what they had to say:

1. Do Your Research and Choose What YOU Want

Dallas Salwonchuk – Sales Consultant

One of the most important things Dallas recommends is to do your research and make sure your first vehicle is something that truly fits your needs and lifestyle.

Also, be mindful when submitting financing applications—avoid applying at multiple dealerships, as this can negatively impact your credit and potentially affect your approval when you find the vehicle you want.

2. Be Prepared with Financial Information

Lynn Reynolds – Business Manager

As a Business Manager,  she often sees customers who come in to look at vehicles and decide to complete a credit application the same day. However, many don’t have key financial details on hand—such as their mortgage balance, market value, or the name of their landlord (if renting).

Coming prepared with this information saves time and avoids back-and-forth emails, making the process much smoother!

3. Decide Between New or Used, Set a Budget, and Take a Test Drive

Steve McKenna  – General Manager

Before visiting a dealership, decide whether you're looking for a new or used vehicle, set a budget, and—most importantly—always take a test drive. A test drive ensures the vehicle feels right for you and meets your expectations before making a decision.

4. Identify Your Must-Haves vs. Nice-to-Haves

Rhonda Green – Sales Consultant

Think about your non-negotiables. Are heated seats a must? Do you need built-in navigation? Is all-wheel drive essential?

Then, consider what features you’re willing to compromise on, such as color or trim level. Knowing this ahead of time helps your sales consultant find the perfect vehicle for you and saves time in the buying process.

5. Research Before You Visit the Dealership

Noah Parsons – Sales Consultant

Spend some time researching online before heading to the dealership. Having a basic understanding of what you're looking for—whether it’s specific models, features, or pricing—can make the process much easier and help you feel more confident when making a decision.

Buying your first car doesn’t have to be stressful! With the right preparation, knowledge, and guidance, you’ll be able to find a vehicle that fits your needs and budget. If you're ready to start your car-buying journey, our team is here to help every step of the way!
