Voltage Meets Velocity: Introducing The Nissan Ariya Single-Seater Concept

Let’s say you’ve been craving pizza. And let’s say as soon as you voice that particular hunger hankering, your phone starts showing you a relentless stream of pizza advertisements. Sound familiar? If you’re anything like a certain writer, you’re now confidently convinced that your phone can read your mind (and you’re 100% getting that pizza). In reality, you know that data and algorithms are plotting towards the demise of your diet and your phone can’t actually read your mind… right?

All of this is a long-winded way of saying, Nissan has read our collective mind. At least, that’s the only conclusion we could come up with. It might sound like a conspiracy theory, but Nissan has delivered the truly stunning, single-seater performance EV of our conceptual dreams. We’d like you to meet the Nissan Ariya Single-Seater Concept.

Originally presented at a recent Nissan Futures event, this sleek and speedy EV concept was designed “to showcase the high-performance potential of the Ariya's powertrain in a motorsports-inspired package,” according to Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan Senior Vice President for Global Design.

Looking ahead at Nissan’s long-term vision for the future, the Ariya Single-Seater Concept explores what a future electrified performance style could look like while drawing inspiration from the Japanese concepts of “shun” and “sho,” meaning, “to run fast and effortlessly,” and “to soar with power and grace” respectively.

The concept’s eye-catching design is clearly modelled after the Ariya, featuring a sporty version of its distinctive electrified and illuminated "V" grille, while the side view reflects “the Ariya's fluid and efficient surfaces, exaggerated to a maximum in carbon fiber.” The overall vision for Nissan’s charged-up concept is to look “like it was shaped by the air itself.”

The Ariya Single-Seater Concept may only exist in our digital dreams (for now), but it gives us a glimpse into what’s coming next for Nissan. As the brand becomes more involved in motorsports and continues to lead the way in cutting edge EV research and design, we expect Nissan’s energy-efficient engineers are only getting warmed up.

The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO is a third trim level added to the seventh-generation Z for its second model year, a top-spec option sitting above the Z Sport and Z Performance.
